Photography, computation and cultural heritage
I work where photography, computation and cultural heritage meet. I direct the Department of Photographic Communications at Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, and I am a Senior Researcher at the Jerusalem Institute for Research and Digital Documentation of Cultural Heritage and an Associate Researcher at DINÂMIA’CET, Iscte, in Lisbon.
My fieldwork documents heritage sites and objects with photogrammetry, RTI, gigapixel imaging, 360 capture and immersive media, from the Chapel of Saint Helena in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to the Apostolos Andreas Monastery in Cyprus. My research centres on the reciprocal relations between people, imaging technologies and place: how each shapes the others, and how computational imaging changes what a photograph is and how we perceive space. I have published this work in journals including New Media & Society, Philosophy of Photography and photographies.
I trained as a photographer at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, studied interactive technology at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University, and completed a PhD in Communications at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. My creative work, interactive installations and photographic projects, has been shown in Jerusalem, London and New York.
