Project Description
2024 | Israel Museum, Jerusalem
The Tel Dan Stele is a fragmentary stone stele bearing an Aramaic inscription of the 9th century BCE, the earliest known extra-biblical archaeological reference to the House of David. It was discovered in 1993 at Tel Dan by Gila Cook, a member of the excavation team led by Avraham Biran; its pieces had been reused in an ancient wall that survived into modern times.
Advanced imaging by the Jerusalem Institute, combining RTI and photogrammetry, supported the Israel Museum in its analysis of the inscription. Both the interactive RTI and the 3D model can be explored online.
Team. Imaging by the Jerusalem Institute for Research and Digital Documentation of Cultural Heritage, Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, for the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.
